MYRSINI MARGARITI, SOPRANO

 




Myrsini Margariti was born in Larissa/Greece. She studied violin and singing at the National Conservatory in Athens and Musicology at the University of Athens. She continued her education with Prof. Elisabeth Wilke and Prof. Gudrun Volkert at the University Mozarteum in Salzburg. She completed two Master’s degrees in “Lied and Oratorio” (Class Prof. H. Höll and B. Zakotnik) «Opera and Musical Theater» (Class Prof. W. Kolneder and R. Seifreid) with the highest honors. She was granted with the “Alexander Onassis Foundation” and the “Juergen Ponto Stiftung” Scholarship. During her studies she also attended master classes given by A. Csengery, A. West, F. Woutsinos, A. Markert, H. Rilling, G. Pisarenko, G. Janowitz, W. Holzmair, Chr. Rousset.

During her studies she already performed the roles of Gretel (Hänsel & Gretel, Salzburg), Muzio (World premiere of the new – discovered baroque Opera of Cesarini, Scarlatti and Caldara: Giunio Bruto, tournee in Austria and Germany), Little red riding hood (Little red riding hood and the good Wolf, Athens), Zerlina (Don Giovanni – “Mozart's Year”, Salzburg), Serpetta (La finta giardiniera – Landestheater Salzburg in cooperation with the International Salzburg Festival).

From 2006 to 2009 Myrsini Margariti has been a member of the ensemble at the Opera of Halle in Germany, the hometown of Handel, where she has performed several roles with great success such as: Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Gretel (Hänsel und Gretel), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Euridice (L' Orfeo), Wellgunde (Das Rheingold), Xenia (Boris Godunov), (Suor Genovieffa in (Suor Angelica), Tebaldo and Voce dal cielo (Don Carlo) a.o.

She made guest appearances at the Theater of Erfurt, Staatstheater Darmstadt, Theater of Fuerth, International Haendel Festspiele Halle, Opera Halle, Theater Wintertur (Swiss), Opera Festival of ancient Corinth, Opera of Larissa, Megaron Athens, International Athens & Epidaurus Festival, Festival of the Aegean, Embassy Festival (The Hague), Greek National Opera, Onassis Cultural Center  a.o. in roles such as Micaela (Carmen), Drusilla (L‘ incoronazione di Poppea) , Despina (Cosi fan tutte), Gianetta (L’ elisir d’ amore), Clorinda (Cenerentola), Pamina (Die Zauberfloete), Sylvia (L' isola disabitata), Coryphee (Alceste), Laodice (Hasse's Siroe), Lola (Pic Nic, greek operetta), Salome (Stradella's San Giovanni), Alceste (Th. Stathis). Valencienne (Die Lustige Witwe) a.o.  As a concert singer she has performed in Greece, Austria, Germany, Switzerland, Turkey, Mexiko, England, Hungary, Belgium, Holland.  She sang in the official opening of the Greek Presidency in Bozar, Brussels.  In August 2014 she had her debut in the BBC Proms with Armonia Atenea under George Petrou.

The music of baroque is a very important aspect of her career. She has sung several operatic roles, oratorios and cantatas of Haendel, Vivaldi, Bach, Buxtehude, Fux, Telemann, Stradella a.o. and has worked with several specialized early music orchestras such as New Dutch Academy, Armonia Atenea, New Dutch Academy, Lautten Compagney, Haendelfestpielorchester Halle, Latinitas Nostra, New Gebew Concertino, Salzburger Hofmusik with conductors such as Helmuth Rilling (Bachakademie), Marcus Creed, George Petrou, Wolfgang Katschner, Markelos Chryssicos, Simon Murphy a.o. Her interpretation in the recording of Handel's Cantata Apollo e Dafne (Händelfestspielorchester Halle, Bernhard Forck, Production: AVI -Music) received critical acclaim. In November 2013 the cd "Claude Debussy: la musique `a moi" (UTOPIA  RECORDS/MIKRI ARKTOS)  was released, while recently two new cds were added in her Discography both works of the reknown greek composer D. Papadimitriou: "Meres Epitafiou" and "Aesop's Fables" .
